{"id":5604,"date":"2021-09-01T15:15:50","date_gmt":"2021-09-01T03:15:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mhjc.school.nz\/?p=5604"},"modified":"2021-09-01T15:15:51","modified_gmt":"2021-09-01T03:15:51","slug":"memo-re-level-4-lockdown-distance-learning-explained","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mhjc.school.nz\/index.php\/2021\/09\/01\/memo-re-level-4-lockdown-distance-learning-explained\/","title":{"rendered":"Memo re: Level 4 lockdown &#8211; distance learning explained"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the alert level 4 lockdown status has been extended in Auckland for two weeks and we can anticipate a probable return to level 1 and \u201cnormal\u201d\u00a0 school either late in Term 3 or at the start of term 4, I feel it is important that parents and caregivers understand what our plan is during this period of <\/span><b>distance learning.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our priority continues to be the <\/span><b>wellbeing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of our community. We acknowledge that it is not easy working from home as well as supervising your child\/ren\u2019s learning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We also learnt several lessons from last year which have informed and guided our actions this time. We strive to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Balance academic progress with hauora\/wellbeing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Limit<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> screen time and promote active learning;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Provide students with a degree of <\/span><b>autonomy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> over their learning &#8211; similar to <\/span><b>Focus Friday<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with teachers outlining the expectations for the week and students managing their time to complete tasks given;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Minimise the number of <\/span><b>emails<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> being sent to parents (apologies for this one!)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The partnership between home and school is of critical importance for student success so if you know what we are trying to do you will be better able to support us and your child\/ren:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Learning Advisors will check in with their students<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at least once a week, in case support is needed. We check on-line activity and\/or entry to google classroom and other online platforms like Reading Plus, Maths Buddy or Education Perfect.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>\u00a0Subject teachers will connect with classes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> using at least one collaborative tool a week like google classroom<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; this may not last the whole hour but is another useful check in for us to see students are OK, explain new work or the tasks for the week.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a general rule teachers will not set more than <\/span><b>2 hours a week<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\/per subject for Year 9 and 10 and <\/span><b>1 hour a week<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for Year 7 and 8 (and options).
