{"id":8652,"date":"2024-08-06T11:10:29","date_gmt":"2024-08-05T23:10:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mhjc.school.nz\/?p=8652"},"modified":"2024-08-06T11:15:59","modified_gmt":"2024-08-05T23:15:59","slug":"government-announcements-regarding-literacy-and-numeracy-achievement-targets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mhjc.school.nz\/index.php\/2024\/08\/06\/government-announcements-regarding-literacy-and-numeracy-achievement-targets\/","title":{"rendered":"Government announcements regarding literacy and numeracy achievement targets:"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Kia ora koutou<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There has been much in the media recently about national numeracy and literacy achievement levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While we believe in a holistic approach to measuring student success, MHJC has always placed a strong emphasis on literacy and numeracy and has well established processes to ensure we maintain high standards, progress and achievement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>specialist classroom teaching from Year 7;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>regular testing using e-asTTle to measure progress and achievement;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>clear homework expectations using Reading Plus and Maths Buddy and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>identification and support for students who have gaps in their learning through the DEEP programme..<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I wish to reassure the community that our collective efforts have resulted in achievement data that is not far away from the targets set by the government &#8211; that 80% of all Year 8 students will achieve at or above curriculum level by December 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Year 8 end of year data for 2023 was as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mathematics: 72%<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reading: 74%<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our mid year data also shows we are well on course to reach our targets as well as those set by the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thank you for your support at home supporting our expectations regarding homework completion which is crucial for our students\u2019 success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nga mihi<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ian Morrison<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tumuaki\/Principal<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kia ora koutou There has been much in the media recently about national numeracy and literacy achievement levels.
