Today, Year 9 students from Mountains Whānau experienced the adventure of the Adrenaline Forest. Students spent the day challenging themselves on high ropes courses as part of their ‘Out Of Your Comfort Zone’ learning context.

Orange Mufti Day
MHJC will be having a 40 Hour Famine ‘Orange Mufti Day’ on Friday 25 June. Students are asked to bring in a gold coin donation.
Students, you have 2 weeks to organise your orange clothes! Let’s have a sea of orange at MHJC to support the 40 Hour Famine and vulnerable children.
40 Hour Famine sign-ups will continue this week.
World Vision Junior Youth Conference
Last month, 4 students participated in the World Vision Junior Youth Conference. The goal of the conference was to help grow global citizens through sharing stories, empowering individuals, and inspiring leadership skills. Well done to Savir Selagan (8C1), Kiana Paoo (8F2), Manaspreet Kaur (8M1), and Anmoldeep Kaur (8W2).
Hwa Chong Leadership Convention
The 26th Hwa Chong Leadership Convention took place virtually this week. Out student leaders worked to solve current world issues with peers from 30 schools around the world.
Mission Heights students were announced overall winners in four of the scenario solutions:
Youth Faculty 5 – John Nguyen and Bomee Widagdo
Youth Faculty 9 – Melissa Dam and Shoaib Azeem
Youth Faculty 3 – Mika Ramsing
Youth Faculty 6 – Ayush Singh
The best delegates from the conference were Jasleen Singh and Melissa Dam. Navroj Kaur and Vrinda Chatrathi won an award for Best Adversity and Ayush Singh won an award for Best Teamwork.

Forest Whānau – Tiritiri Matangi Island
Year 7 students from Forest Whānau travelled over to Tiritiri Matangi Island today. It was a day to learn about the native bird and plant species that call Tiritiri Matangi home and how important the Island is in conservation efforts. The trip supported students’ Term 2 learning context – ‘Kaitiaki: Guardians of the Ngahere’.
40 Hour Famine
Mission Heights Junior College is supporting World Vision again this year through participation in the 40 Hour Famine. Students across the school are invited to participate in this event which runs from June 25 – 27, 2021. More information about registration can be found on the 40 Hour Famine website or from Mrs Ismail at school.
Coast Whānau VR Voom Experience
Over the past fortnight, all students in Coast Whānau have made trips to the Auckland Museum and VR Voom in Newmarket. Students spent time at the Museum looking at exhibits that relate to their Term 2 learning contexts. The VR Voom taught students about advancing VR technologies. Students also experienced first hand how realistic such programmes can be. Definitely a day to remember for all!

Pink Shirt Day 2021
Pink Shirt Day 2021!
Students and staff supported Pink Shirt Day by dressing in pink to Speak Up, Stand Together, and Stop Bullying. Initiatives have been running all week across the school to teach students how to be ‘upstanders’ and to further make MHJC a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
