SavY is an organisation which supports young Kiwis in understanding everyday finances. They have come into MHJC in the past providing students with financial literacy knowledge. This Thursday 7th April at 5pm, they are offering a special virtual workshop for students/parents. This workshop will cover inflation, investing and budgeting, and is designed to help youth understand the impact of inflation and how to cope with it.
The link for the workshop can be found below and on SavY’s social media platforms.
Recently, Mr Morrison attended, on behalf of the school, a ceremony of gratitude to the New Zealand Police for their assistance in distributing RATs to schools last month. MHJC would also like to express our appreciation of Venerable Abbess for her amazing organisation of the procurement and generosity.
Yesterday, Year 8 students from Coast Whānau travelled to Duder Regional Park for the day. As part of their Term 1 context ‘Our Place’, students worked to learn more about our local area, including Duder Regional Park. Leading up to the trip, students learned how to be socially responsible citizens in order to work well with peers and take care of ‘Our Place’. A fantastic day was had by all!

Neurodiversity Celebration Week is a worldwide initiative that challenges stereotypes and misconceptions about neurological differences. It aims to transform how neurodivergent individuals are perceived and supported by providing schools, universities, and organisations with the opportunity to recognise the many talents and advantages of being neurodivergent, while creating more inclusive and equitable cultures that celebrate differences and empower every individual.
Last Friday was the final ‘Year 7 Day Camp’ experience. Students from Mountains Whānau travelled down to Camp Adair for the day and spent time enjoying the wide range of activities on offer. Ko te tumanako kua pai tō wheako i te hopuni.
These values are an integral aspect of life at MHJC and all students continue to learn and demonstrate these values throughout their journey. These values are unpacked by the Great Learner Progression. Students are assessed against these progressions and this is reported on their ‘live’ Holistic Report. This report is accessible 24 hours a day and updated weekly on Mission Heights Online.
Our first school value to be featured is Pono/Integrity. Here students are working to:
– be an active and reliable community member
– be a safe and responsible user of digital technology
– practice emotional self-regulation and mindful well-being
