OPC – Day 5

Highlights from Day 5 (Friday) down in Tongariro.

Friday morning was spent packing up and tramping out from the overnight. What incredible weather and scenery the group had, including clear skies to witness all the stars. Once back at base, students cleaned all their overnight gear and began to pack-up for the journey back to Auckland.

Another epic year for our students (and staff) down in Tongariro! The experiences gained at Hillary Outdoors are always second to none!

OPC – Day 4

Highlights from Day 4 (Thursday) down in Tongariro.

Tonight is the big overnight trip! Students (and staff) spent the morning organising gear and packing bags before heading off into the wilderness. They tramped into the foothills of the mountains and had a stunning sunset view from their camp spot! Tomorrow they will tramp out and begin to prepare for their departure back to Auckland.

OPC – Day 3

Highlights from Day 3 (Wednesday) down in Tongariro.

The students spent a large portion of the day preparing to cave and then actually caving in the local caves close to the OPC base. An exhilarating and challenging experience for all. Students had a great time adventuring though!

OPC – Day 2

Highlights from Day 2 (Tuesday) down in Tongariro.

Students spent the morning completing Rock Climbing and Team Challenges. They then completed a stream tramp on their way back to the OPC base. A rather wet, but thrilling activity. Students and staff then travelled to the hot pools in Turangi for a relaxing evening.

OPC 2022 – Day 1

Some highlights from Day 1 (Monday) down in Tongariro. Students had a day up the mountain in the snow in rather stunning conditions. A highlight for sure!

Day 2 (Tuesday) will keep students more local to OPC’s base, participating in rock climbing, high ropes, or abseiling.

Cook Islands Language Week

This year’s theme for ‘Epetoma o te reo Māori Kūki ‘Āirani’ – Cook Islands Language Week is ‘Ātuitui’ia au ki te Oneone o tōku ‘Ui Tupuna’ which means, connect me to the soil of my ancestors.

Our two Kura, Mission Heights Junior College and Mission Heights Primary School came together to open up our week with songs, prayers, and the Cook Island National Anthem.

A special thank you to Aunty Ianny and our Māori and Pasifika Council for decorating our reception beautifully and our parents/musicians for their wonderful music.

Meitaki!
