Yesterday, Year 9 students from Wai Whānau travelled to Rangitoto Island to experience the wonder of this Hauraki Gulf Island.
Their Term 1 context was ‘Beyond the Footprints’, where they spent time learning about various Auckland Regional Parks and marine reserves. They looked at how important these areas are to the ecological preservation of Tamaki Makaurau and how well they serve as community resources to support well-being. They travelled to Rangitoto Island to look at this special area and how citizens of Auckland can use and access this volcano for recreational purposes.
All students and staff had an incredible day out. They summited the volcano, experienced the lava caves, and enjoyed looking at the sea life back down by the wharf!
Well done completing such a challenging day hike!
