Well done to you both. MHJC is so proud of you!

Earlier this term, MHJC students lit up Ormiston Town Centre with a vibrant Diwali performance, sharing the joy and spirit of the festival with the community.
Thank you to everyone who came to support our tamariki!

A notice for our community (an email was sent home Friday).
We would like to inform you of an early closure on Wednesday due to planned strike action by the Post Primary Teachers’ Association (PPTA).
PPTA members covered by the Area and Secondary Teachers’ Collective will be taking strike action next week, which impacts our ability to provide necessary instruction and supervision.
𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐞: 𝐖𝐞𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟓 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫
Time of Action: 1:15 pm to 3:15 pm (a two-hour work ban)
Nature of Action: This is a ban on all work by covered PPTA employees during the specified two-hour period.
Due to the withdrawal of labour by teaching staff from 1:15 pm, the school cannot guarantee supervision for students after this time.
Therefore, we have made the decision to close the school early to ensure the health and safety of all students.
School will formally close at 1:00 pm on Wednesday 5 November. Please ensure your child/ren are collected promptly.
We understand this disruption creates challenges for families, and we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this will cause.
Important information regarding the recent measles outbreak in Aotearoa/New Zealand
No cases have been identified in the MHJC community however I wish to share this bulletin which was sent to schools from Health NZ:
Measles is circulating and is very contagious. There are cases in Northland, Auckland, Manawatu, Nelson and Wellington, and we expect further cases across New Zealand.

Yesterday MHJC had our annual Athletics and Tabloids Day.
For Tabloids, students remained on school site and participated in smaller Whānau teams. They rotated around numerous stations, competing in sports, arts, singing, and fun relays. It was great to see students outside, having fun, and displaying great Whānau spirit.
Thanks to all teachers who ran a station. Congratulations to Maunga Whānau for winning the Tabloids competition!

Yesterday MHJC had our annual Athletics and Tabloids Day.
For Athletics, students travelled by bus to Massey Park in Papakura. They competed in track and field events, representing their Whānau. It was amazing to see these young athletes push themselves and display true sportsmanship.
Well done to all students who took part. And for the teachers and student helpers for running the events. Congratulations to Ngahere Whānau for winning Athletics!

The Educational Review Office reviewed Mission Heights Junior College’s performance with respect to general school performance, Board regulatory and legislative requirements and International Student requirements in September 2025, their findings are in the official documents below.
From all of us at MHJC, we with our community a Happy Diwali! ✨

Thanks to the prompt action of staff and students a fire was extinguished at lunch time in the bush surrounding the bike track today, Tuesday 21 October.
The fire service was called and they confirmed that it posed no further risk.
An investigation will follow to find those responsible if it was deliberate and appropriate consequences will follow as this was an extremely serious incident.
