School Field Fire
Thanks to the prompt action of staff and students a fire was extinguished at lunch time in the bush surrounding the bike track today, Tuesday 21 October.
The fire service was called and they confirmed that it posed no further risk.
An investigation will follow to find those responsible if it was deliberate and appropriate consequences will follow as this was an extremely serious incident.
Strike Action and Other Reminders
𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐅𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 – 𝐓𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟑 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓
Following a breakdown in the bargaining process between the PPTA and Ministry of Education, PPTA Te Wehengarua members covered by the Secondary Teachers’ Collective Agreement (“STCA”) have voted to take strike action.
The school does not have sufficient staff to safely remain open for instruction on that day. Therefore, teachers who are not PPTA members will supervise students on site who cannot be supervised at home. If your child/ren cannot be supervised at home on Thursday 23 October, please email the Whānau Assistant, as below, by 4pm, Tuesday 21 October.
If this request is not received, it is understood that the parent/caregiver will take responsibility for the supervision of their child/ren.

Diwali Performance
🌟 MHJC Diwali Performance at Ormiston Town Centre 🌟
A group of our talented Mission Heights Junior College students will be performing at Ormiston Town Centre to celebrate Diwali on Friday 17th October from 12:00–12:30 PM.
If you are in or around the centre, we warmly invite you to come along and support our tamariki as they share the spirit of Diwali through dance and celebration.
Maunga Y9s at Spookers
Yesterday, Year 9 students from Te Whānau Maunga went to Spookers! It was a thrilling and exciting new experience for many. They learned about special effects, how the actors spend their days, and what happens behind the scenes of the themed attraction. This EOTC day connected to their current learning context – The Spooky World of Halloween. 🎃👻

Te Ahurea Tino Rangatiratanga
MHJC participated with Ormiston Senior College and Ormiston Junior College as Ngā Pou Kahikatea at Friday’s Te Ahurea Tino Rangatiratanga competition.
Congratulations to our performers, Matua Leeroy and the whole rōpū.
